Far Off Saints for You!

Ivan Veldhuizen

"You need to write a missions study for churches!"

I was a pastor in the Midwest for 28 years, the last sixteen with a vibrant congregation in a suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota. When I announced my departure to lead missions for our Converge denomination, the above statement was regularly expressed. There were two primary reasons for this repeated encouragement:

  • The church understood my heart and passion for the lost, including those among the least-reached peoples of the world.
  • The most spiritually transforming experiences we encountered as a church were those through which I had written companion booklets and small group guides to reinforce my Sunday teaching on various themes.

Fourteen years later

Fast forward 14 years--Far Off Saints is that missions study for churches! It contains:

  • Sermon resources for pastors wanting to make Far Off Saints an all-church experience.
  • Daily user-friendly bite-sized readings in the major themes of the four-week study.
  • QR links to additional resources for avid learners.
  • Small group guides are in the book for each week of the study.
  • Four QR-linked video teaching sessions designed to be used with the small group experiences.

A Spiritual Encounter

Writing is hard work! But I loved it, too. As I wrote Far Off Saints over nine years, I felt the Holy Spirit guiding me. It was a spiritual encounter each time I created a new section of the study. My heart would race, my adrenaline would kick in, my breathing changed, and my fingers picked up speed on the keyboard as I felt God leading me in this endeavor.

I’m thrilled to share Far Off Saints with you. This is intended to stir your mind and heart for the lost people of the world here, near, and far.

My hope for this study

I’m praying that this will be rich for you personally, or for your small group, or for your entire church. After all, this gospel is for you, your children, and for all who are far off, Acts 2:39.

For all those who are here, near and far off.

Around the world, people groups and communities remain unreached—no gospel presence, no disciples, no church, no missionaries. Though distant to us, they are close to God’s heart. As Peter said at Pentecost, “This promise is for you, your children, and all who are far off.”
